In fall 2010, I will do a 525 km bike ride in 8 days to raise 5000 pounds for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society and here is why I decided to do this bike ride:
MS is the most common neuroimmunological disease, and often affects young people. There are 100,000 people with MS in the UK, and 1 million worldwide. The main reason that I want to be more active supporting the MS society is that my mum has been suffering from MS for over 30 years.
Until my mum’s diagnosis I’d never heard of MS, to be honest, it took me years to understand MS and how it affects people. The symptoms challenged me the most, as they are highly variable and unpredictable. The progress of the disease can change from one individual to the other. The first person that I met with MS had a very progressive form; she could only move her left arm.
By being close to an MS patient, there is always a chance to help manage upsetting and difficult aspects of MS. It’s more rewarding, if these efforts can reach more people through the MS society, especially people that may not have a good support system.
Please consider (and encourage others) a gift of 1, 5, 10, 20 (in $, £ or YTL) or more… If all given a little, it would add up to a lot. Please keep in mind that your contribution will make a difference by providing vital services and relief to those affected by MS and their families. Thank you very much in advance.
