Tony Johnstone Golf Clinic

12 July 2009
Merrist Wood Golf Club, Surrey

TEEforeTWO, a website that connects single golfers with golf partners, has chosen the MS Society as their charity of the year. Below is an account of a recent golf day organised by TEEforeTWO which was attended by European Senior Tour player and MS Society supporter Tony Johnstone.

They say that ‘the more you practice, the luckier you get’. And those Members who attended the TEEforeTWO Golf Clinic with European Tour Professional Tony Johnstone at Merrist Wood Golf Club yesterday would no doubt agree that they were very lucky to attend a Masterclass from one the great exponents of the short game.

Tony, who is busy practicing himself for the Senior Open Championship at Sunningdale (23rd-26th July) agreed to talk to Members about chipping, bunker play and the variety of shots that we should be considering in order to bring down our handicaps!

What we received was all that and a whole lot more. After an hour of watching and listening to Tony, he had everyone, all 28 of us, chipping onto the huge practice green from the fringes and bunkers. And the icing on the cake was that he gave individual tuition to every single person there! “It looks so easy when you see him do it!” was one comment.

It was a memorable morning; apart from the enjoyment of our clinic, there was a serious element. We raised extra funds for the MS Society, the TEEforeTWO Charity of the Year. Tony was diagnosed with MS five years ago. His story can be found in the Charity of the Year pages of the website. His story brings hope to many less fortunate.
